Aha, time to see what Heatherpaw is really made of! That was the pact that older warrior Appleclaw pledged to herself when she recieved Heatherpaw as an apprentice. She would train the dusty brown tabby, and drill the forms deep into her. Yes, that was the pledge.
Her light amber eyes reflected whatever light there was this dusk, and with the bright white snow coming lighter than normal, she was confident that the river wouldn't freeze over. Well, she had lived fifty moons in this forest, and witnessed about four leaf-bares. She flicked her light ginger tail, then called over her shoulder.
"Heatherpaw! Come down; I think I can sense better hunting down here!" she yowled to her apprentice, waving her tail to better get her attention. It has been a while since she had taken the apprentice out, and it was about time she faced hunting on a near-frozen river!

Heatherpaw hurried down to her mentor. Despite her thick fur the cold nipped at her and sent a shiver down her back. The cold made her uneasy. She stood next to Appleclaw and glanced at her nervously. She wasn't too great at hunting and got nervous easily. "Isn't it too thin to hunt on?" she asked guessing what her mentor had in mind.

The older warrior's head turned toward her apprentice, and soon her whole body was turned toward Heatherpaw. "Too thin to hunt /on/? We hunt on the side of the river, remember?" she reminded her apprentice coldly, her eyes narrowing into deep amber slits. She turned back to the river, the frost hanging onto her thick ginger fur. She took one paw and placed it onto the riverice, and pushed through. The ice cracked into a shape the size of her paw and spread to the sides.
"Do you remember how to hunt fish?" she questioned the younger she-cat, flicking her tail high in the air. Appleclaw certainly felt chilled, but nothing could really melt her.

Heatherpaw blushed when she realized the mistake she had made. "Erm...umm.. of course we hunt on the side..." she mumbled as she looked down at her paws. What on earth made me think we'd be hunting ON it? Appleclaw's next question surprised her even more. OF course she knew how to fish. She just didn't quite...remember. That's it I don't remember!! she thought, happy that she'd come up with such a good explanation. "Of course! But do you think you can show me first? You know, just how to er.. remind me how to do it right..." she said in a sweet voice.
