Finchnose I am not distracta- Oh look a butterfly! Finchnose padded along, tail up. His sister was old enough to be out of camp, she was all of four moons. They weren't close to any borders so he didn't see the point of the rule she had to stay in camp. Anyway, that wasn't part of the warrior code. She wasn't an apprentice, she was just is little sister on a fun outing with her big brother. There wasn't anything wrong with that. "Okay Rainkit. Remember the hunting crouch I told you. Now there's a mouse over there. To kill it you have to bite it in the neck." He said. "And don't let it bite you, mouse bites hurt a lot." He explained. "Or so I've heard. So you have to make the kill quick, pin it down before you kill it." He stayed low and waited for her to bring down the mouse. He was sure she could do it.

Finchnose sure didn't have to drag her along, no where near it. She followed her big brother willingly, letting him lead her to what she was promised, hunting for real this time. And her big brother never went down on a promise. That's what she liked best about him....that and he actually liked her. Rainkit's tiny paws tried her best to keep up with her brother, if only she weren't so little! But she didn't complain, just kept on going until the destination had been reached.
Looking up at Finchnose as he spoke the runt kit nodded eagerly. She was ready to get started and prove that she was just as good as any warrior. "To kill it, bite it in the neck." she repeated, keeping that in mind, as it would be important information. Rainkit could listen well when she wanted to, she just usually chose to ignore listening and just do whatever. But it was Finchnose talking. It had to be important!
The kit shuddered as she thought of getting bit by a mouse, and then a grin came across her face. If she got bit, then she could have a tough scar! It would prove that she was a hard worker and she wasn't just the little kit in her litter. She had only heart bits and pieces of what Finchnose had said next, her attention span had not allowed much more than what he had said other than to pin it down. Hopefully that was all he said.
It took her a bit to realize he was waiting on her and got into her hunting crouch, just like she had been shown, her little tail was still as she watched the mouse. The only good thing about her small size is she was quick. Within a few seconds she ran to the mouse and had it pinned down, mewling with delight.
But not hearing the part about killing it ruined the little kit's chances. Soon enough, it had escaped from her grasp and she felt something biting at her paw. The tiny kit let out a mew of pain and swatted at it with another paw, it finally letting go, before the kit pinned it down again, only to have it slip again and the kit tripped, her back toward the mouse as it bit her on the back. Letting out another mewl of pain the kit looked around for her brother. Why wasn't he helping?

Finchnose I am not distracta- Oh look a butterfly! Finchnose watched as she crouched, spring and pin the mouse. He smiled, then his brown furrowed when she didn't kill it instantly. Instead she mewled happily. The mouse escaped and launched a counter attack. The tom leapt forward and swatted the mouse off, knocking it against a rock. Then he jumped in it and bit down its skull, crushing it. "Are you okay?" he mewed, looking at his sister. He'd never forgive himself if anything happened to her. He leaned down and licked her paw. "that's a nasty cut you've got... and if we bring you to the medicine cat they'll know we were outside the camp." he said. "But... cobwebs right?" he had been in and out of the medicine cat den so much he knew how to stop bleeding. "and you'll be all better!"

Rainkit really was a tough little kit, it took a lot to keep her down. But the bites from the mouse had really affected her. The little kit was not only shocked, but for once in her life, scared. When her brother came to her rescue she sighed with relief. "No. I'm not okay, obviously. My paw is hurting, make it stop!" she whined. Whining wasn't something she normally did either, she just sucked it up and dealt with whatever came her way. But her paw was hurting, and she couldn't be her normal self.
The gray kit knew she would never have too much to worry about, having a big brother like Finchnose to protect her, but she was determined to prove something. She had to. The little kit got back onto her paws and attempted to walk on her hurt paw. Not a good idea, it only made her mewl with pain. That mouse really had gotten it good. She just nodded at his suggestion. "I guess. I don't care what you do, just make it stop hurting. Please." She had even said please. Who knew the word was actually in Rainkit's vocabulary. But she trusted Finchnose, whatever he said would work had to.

Finchnose I am not distracta- Oh look a butterfly! Finchnose sighed and grabbed a cobweb, then carefully put it on her paw. "There... that should stop the bleeding." He mewed. He paused and crouched down. "here, you can sit on my back." he mewed. "Until your paw is feeling better at least." he added, grinning at his sister. He'd do anything to make sure she was safe. In his mind the little grey kit's life was far more important than his own. He looked at the mouse. "You can carry that if you want, you deserve it." he said, beaming with pride. "I wouldn't be so tough if I got mousebit."

When her brother touched her paw to put the cobweb's on, the little kit flinched slightly. She was doing her best to not completely break down and whine, and so far her stubbornness was winning, allowing her to ignore the searing pain. When Finchnose spoke, Rainkit had only nodded slightly. Hopefully it would stop the bleeding, not that she was bothered by it, she just didn't want to lose her paw.
The moment he offered his back, Rainkit took no effort into ignoring him and continue to have her weight on the paw. Instead she obliged and settled down, feeling better now that she didn't have her weight on it. "Thanks. It feels a little better now." she mewed softly. Though she hated to admit it, she really did need help. And here she was accepting help. Who knew she would ever need someone.
Mentioning her carrying the mouse was the best thing he could ever offer. Nodding in agreement she bounded over to grab the mouse, only to mewl in pain, realizing she had just walked on her hurt paw, acting as if everything were normal. She managed to drag it back, but had to sit back down, and get off her paw. Never had she been hurt this bad, a scratch or two from playing with others, but this was different. This time her mother wasn't there to make her feel better. Sure she had big brother, but it was different. She liked having Finchnose with her.
"I have to be tough, I just have to be." she mewed glancing up at Finchnose. "If I'm not tough, then I wouldn't be anything. I wouldn't be able to play with the other kits."

Finchnose I am not distracta- Oh look a butterfly! "Hey kiddo." He mewed. "Being tough isn't everything." He told her. "You're smart." he said, tapping her head with his tail. "And you're brave." he touched a paw to her chest. "Being tough is something you just don't need." he added, licking her ear. "I've known cats who are tough as can be, but are also as dumb as a stick." He explained. "Now would you like to be big, tough and dumb as a stick?" He asked her. "I don't think so." He added, smiling. "Now be careful, don't put weight on it okay? We're going to have to figure out a story to tell mother so we don't get in trouble for having you out of camp." he added. "Again..."

Rainkit blinked at her brother. Really being tough wasn't everything? It was to her. She was the only she-kit in the litter, she had to be tough to keep up with her brothers. And she was the only she-kit in the nursery at the moment, so tough was something that wasn't just necessary, it was required. "It is for me." she mewed softly. When he mentioned her being smart, she just sat and smiled. No point in arguing about that. She knew she was smart. And of course she was brave, she was out here with him, and no normal kit would be out here!
"But the thing is I'm not too big, so I have to be tough. You try keeping up with everyone in the nursery. I dare you." she retorted. But she knew he was right.
The little kit looked up at her brother confused. "How am I suppose to walk and not put weight on it? Our mother will think it is a bit strange if you carry me back to camp." she questioned. "Thought it would be an excuse to say you went out and I followed, and I hurt my paw in the process." Rainkit suggested. "I dunno, you are older, you decide."

Finchnose was about to speak when a very angry sounding voice interrupted him. He turned and saw his mother, Specklestorm, stalking towards them, ears back and tail lashing back and forth. Finchnose flattened himself to the ground and made himself look small.
"Finchnose of RiverClan, how dare you assist your sister in deliberatly disobeying me." She snarled, her eyes flashing with anger. "You know full well that she is only a kit, and that she was grounded." She went on. "I expect better behaviour from a warrior of RiverClan and from my son. However right now you are behaving like a lawless rogue." She drew herself to her full height, towering over her cowering son.
"And don't think you're getting off easy Rainkit." She added, turning to her daughter. "You will get your tail right back to camp this instant young lady." She said, after giving the wayward kit a smart cuff around her ears. She then picked up the small kit by the scruff of her neck. "And as soon as your paw is fixed, you are grounded until your warrior ceremony, do I make myself clear? If you sneak out again, I'll talk to Palestar about having your ceremony postponed and you will be confined to the nursery the whole time." She knew it was an empty threat, since she didn't want to stay in the nursery a month longer to watch her unruly spawn."
She put Rainkit onto the ground for a moment and put a paw on her shoulder to keep her from running off.
"I am very dissapointed in the both of you. Finchnose, back to camp NOW!" Finchnose walked off to camp, shoulders hunched and looking sorry for himself.
"And don't cry or I swear to starclan, I'll give you something real to cry about. That goes for you too Rainkit." she said, picking up the small grey kit again.
I do not understand why these two act this way, must be their father's side. she thought as she padded back to camp.

Of course the worst possible thing that could happen, happened. It was a little kit's worst nightmare, being caught. Rainkit was used to it by now, always following after her brother and getting caught. But this time Specklestorm looked even more angry than the last time....if that was possible. She listened as her mother spoke to her brother, and watched the interaction.
When Specklestorm began to talk to her, Rainkit didn't shrink back like her brother, she held her ground. The little kit was shaking, not out of fear, but out of pain. Her paw was being troublesome and she just blinked up at her mother as she was being scolded. She barely flinched when she felt her mother's paw on her head. She had to stay tough. She just had to. The little kit let out a mewl as she was picked up, but still had the mouse that they had caught in her mouth, or well, some of it in her mouth, the thing was too big to fit in her whole mouth. She made no sound at her mother's threats, though she didn't want to stay in the nursery forever, the kit didn't think her mother did either.
Another mew came out of the little kit's mouth as she was set back down, she had landed on her hurt paw. She didn't understand why her mother was holding onto her, it wasn't like Rainkit could walk well at this point anyway. Listening to another rant session from her mother Rainkit nodded. Specklestorm didn't have to worry about her, Rainkit wouldn't cry, it was against her proving herself as tough. Tough kits didn't cry. "Mommy, I caught a mouse for you, I hope you like it." she mewed quietly as she was picked up again.

Specklestorm sighed as she felt her heart melt a little. However she kept on walking. Just when this kit made her want to murder someone, she went and said something like that. Specklestorm sighed. "When we get back to camp you can put it on the fresh kill pile." she said. She sighed again, she had been worried when Rainkit sneaked out. What if something horrible happened to her. She gave a little shake, trying to banish that thought and headed back to camp as quickly as she could.

Rainkit nodded slightly at her mother's statement, she didn't want to move around too much and make it harder for her mother to carry her. She knew by now, when she was picked up it was best to stay still and just be limp. "Okay mommy, but I don't want just anyone to eat it. I want you to eat it. I tried my hardest to catch it all by myself and I think I might be too little to try and catch anything on my own." the little kit mewed. "But when I'm bigger and older you won't have to worry about ever getting your own food again, I'm gonna catch the bestest prey in the forest for you and just you." Rainkit boasted.
When they arrived back in camp, she felt herself yawning. Running after Finchnose had exhausted the little kit, all of her muscles ached and her paw was throbbing again. "Mommy, I can make it from here, you can put me down now." she mewed softly. The little kit was so close to sleep, yet was doing her best to fight it.

Stormwhisker kept on carrying her kit and carefully put her down in the nursery. "Now go to sleep." Se mewed, taking the mouse and putting it aside for later. Then she padded out of the Nursery den. A few moments later she was heard berating Finchnose for his stupidtiy and putting his baby sister in danger.
