Description
Of course, his white whiskers would most likely hinder this but, oh well.
The tom's eyes are a pale yellow-green, a handsome color, though, due to being so pale in color they look more grey then they truly are. And, was it not for his paws, these would be the most striking feature on the tom.
But alas, they are not.
No, instead everyone tends to recall Nightshadow because of his large, extra-toed paws.
But, oh well.
Just more claws to sink into your face, after all.[/ul]
Personality
A cunning tom, Nightshadow likes to think he stands out a cut above the normal cat. Perhaps he thinks this because he raised himself or, perhaps he feels this way because of his upbringing. Either way, Nightshadow has a thick, arrogant air about him. He's prideful, this much is easy to tell, and, no matter how nice he tries to be, Nightshadow can't help but take a certain joy from cutting down those around him. Knock them all off their stools a few pegs, make them look like idiots. It's a bad habit, yes, a truly bad habit but, he can't help it. It's fun, at least it is to him. After all, he is intelligent and, if you can't tell this by the way he carries himself well then you'll certainly know by the way he talks to you. Nightshadow certainly is a proud tom and, he tends to talk down to those around him, as if he's talking to a bunch of kits. There's only a certain few cats he respects and talks equally too and, unless you were born in a position of high power (albeit leader or deputy) it takes quite some time to get on this list. His previous mentor (and consequently his best friend), Russetfang, is one of the rare non-high position cats on this list. His mentor's sister, Fawnstep, is also on this list, if only because he respects most of Russetfang's family.
He's practical, usually going out of his way to offer the most simplest of solutions to huge problems. Not enough prey? Share fresh-kill. Not enough fresh-kill? Go hunt. Your feet hurt? Lay down. It can be annoying sometimes, or, sometimes even silly how simple his solutions are but, they are solutions. And, they usually work.
To go along with his arrogant persona, Nightshadow is also rather cunning and collected. He's a she-cat killer, in this sense, because the younger she-cats tend to pine over his dry remarks and “mysterious” appearance. Though, this seems to be the only “appealing” feature of him to the she-cats, once they start talking to him (or watching him) they tend to deem him “boring”, if only because of his habitual routine. Nightshadow likes routine. Wake up, eat, go hunting, talk to Russetfang, etc. It's rare when his routine messes up but, on the occasions where he gets something set in his mind, his routine changes to be all about his new goal. He's determined, in this sense, scarily so. He tends to not rest until his goal is met or, his desire is met. He can come off as a little standoffish sometimes and rather snobbish. He's also a bit of a failure at romance, no matter how much he tries to hide it.
Or tom.
Gender doesn't matter, not really, he only really likes cats he respects, anyway.
So yes, if you do end up on his “respected” list, one way or another, he may end up crushing on you a bit.
But only a little.[/ul]
History
Spottedfoot was not happy.
Not at all.
He didn't want kits, he didn't want to have to be saddled down! He had just wanted a sweet thing to play with, not to have to share with squealing kittens! He wasn't old enough to be a father anyway, he was barely a warrior!
Yeah, Spottedfoot was not happy.
But, he stuck around. After all, ever since her pregnancy Darktail just seemed more and more into him and, what could he do if the she-cat wanted him?
Anway, Darktail's pregnancy went off without a hitch and, her kits- er kit, was born about two weeks later. Instead of the huge amount of kits Daktail guessed she was carrying, instead she was graced with only one, mewling kit. He was bigger then she had expected, a strange little black and white guy. (Aw, she had gushed. He looks like us both!) Not to mention he had a strange little defect, one that Spottedfoot noticed right away. (Great, he's mutated.) The little tom was born with an extra toe on his paws, giving him a strange bulky look. (Of course, Darktail herself had an extra toe on her back paws, Spottedfoot never noticed.) They dubbed him “Nightkit” for his inky black coat, or at least, Darktail did. Spottedfoot had wanted to name him “Toekit”. He never could seem to get over the poor kit's mutation. Darktail loved Nightkit none the less though and, for a while, she enjoyed staying in the nursery with the other queens. But, after a while, she grew bored and, decided when poor Nightkit was around two moons that he didn't need her anymore. He didn't need her milk, anyway, and there were other queens around to watch him.
And so, like that, Darktail left the nursery to join her mate back in the warriors den.
And Nightkit was left alone.
It can be said, here and now, that Nightkit did not like the other queens in the nursery, in fact, he didn't like the other kits in there either. He would of preferred it if it was just himself and his mother but, he made do. He slept at the far end of the nursery, away from the others, refuse to let them clean him and went-about doing everything he could for himself. He didn't need them, after all, he could take care of himself!
That's roughly how Nightshadow's kithood went.
He was made into an apprentice at the usual age, six moons and, was given to a new warrior to mentor. Not exactly new, he was seventeen moons old so, the perfect age to have an apprentice but, still. Russetfang was a rather... interesting cat and, at first Nightpaw didn't exactly like the tom but, he managed to worm his way onto Nightpaw's “respectable cats” list, which use to only consist of the medicine cat, leader, and deputy. A friendship formed between the two, one that ended up lasting way past Nightpaw's apprentice-hood and well into his warrior hood. They became best friends I guess you could say.
Now, it can easily be said that Nightshadow never had a stable relationship with his parents, not that he didn't want one. He pined over his father's attention for a while but, he never really got it. It was after his mother's second pregnancy however, that poor Nightshadow lost his father and mother for good. His mother's second pregnancy has been rough and, she ended up going into labor early on. The labor was rough and something ended up going wrong. She gave birth to one scrawny, stillborn kit and one tiny little she-kit... And then she bled to death on the nursery floor.
Nightpaw was distraught, he was even more so distraught however, when his father rejected his newborn kits. In fact, Spottedfoot in his “grief” ended up packing up and leaving RiverClan for the life of a loner.
It can be said, around this time, is when Nightshadow's friendship with Russetfang increased.
He got over his father running off however, and took it upon himself to help “raise” his younger sister.
With Russetfang's help he was made into a warrior at twelve moons and, has been living a relatively normal and happy life since then.
His sister, Swiftpaw, however, has been rejecting her brother's... brotherlyness lately and has been stating that she hates him and his happy on her own.
....
Must be a “rebel” stage.[/ul]

Roleplay Example
In the rain.
Nightshadow hated the rain.
Pressed against the earth, the soppy tom stared down an old tree. He could see a bird in it, shieled from the rain and tending to her nest.
He wanted that bird.
But, it wad doubtful she would come out in the rain.
But, once the rain stopped...
So Nightshadow sat and waited.
And waited.
And eventually, when the clap of thunder and flash of lightning struck across the sky near him, the tom was awoken from his trance.
And finally, the practical side of him won him over and, he hightailed it out of there.
Later on that night, while the rain still continued and he had been exiled to the outer edge of the warrior den until he dried, Nightshadow decided that next time he would just re-work a new routine.
Even if he didn't want to.[/ul][/size]
