Name: Lionstar
Gender: Tom
Age: 48 moons (at death)
Clan: ThunderClan
Rank: Leader
Apprentice: Open
Love Interest: ?
Kin: Gingerleaf, Flamefoot
Description: Lionstar is of a muscular build, with a robust chest and thick strong legs. He is a rather large is size, but proportionally so, meaning he does not look short or tall limb-wise. His head seems a bit too big for his body, and is surrounded by a jagged mane. While his thick tail looks a bit short and spiky. His fur has an odd texture, thick but short and sticking out in every direction except for when it is weighed down with water.
Lionstar has a long forehead, which slopes into a short muzzle. His lower jaw is inward, and is white as opposed to the golden tan of the rest of his fur. His face is covered in long, wiry whiskers that fly out in the same fashion as his fur. His nose is small and pink, the only delicate feature on his entire body. His eyes are wide and shining gold.
Personality: The Spirit of modern ThunderClan! Lionstar is a cat of much heart. He is passionate about his Clan. Lionstar is joyous and proud at any ceremony for his clanmates, despite seeing and conducting many over the past moons. He loves all of his Clanmates deeply, but not equally, preferring to give them the benefit of the doubt. He would like to trust that those who make mistakes do so with the best intention. By the same token, he is rather harsh on those who purposely cause harm. Cats outside of his clan who purposely insult or harm his clanmates receive no mercy from his tongue lashings, but he has built up a high resistance against actually engaging in battle. He knows enough now to put his Clan first, and battle is not the best solution in these peaceful times.
He is highly devoted to the warrior code. Purposely breaking it is worthy of banishment in his eyes. It might pain him to the depths of his heart, but he could not bear to see the Clan he loves corrupted and destroyed as it had been in his kithood. What he hates the most is mating in other clans. It disgusts him and breaks his heart at the very thought of it.
Outside of his love for his clan, he is much calmer and quieter in these peaceful times. He has taken to hunting alone to relieve the stress of running a Clan. He is very good at speaking and despite his youth in comparison to the other leaders, he is quite wise and often claims to have “seen it all”. And with a past like his…perhaps he has.
History: Lionkit was born in a litter of three to Darkwing and Hawkclaw. He was named for his soft golden pelt and well cared for by his mother along with his brother Flamekit and his sister Gingerkit. He was a trouble-maker in his kit days. An adventurous and brave one with little regards for the rules. These were dark times for the Clans of the Lake and aside from his parents there were few cats to look at for him. The Clans were wild from the Warrior Code. There were cats leaving for other clans and joining ThunderClan every few moons. There was chaos, a total lack of organization. Hunting Patrols would split up and cats would return with prey at all times of day, some without prey at all. Apprentices ran rampant, often skipping their chores and lying about having done them, and when caught and punished they would skip the extra chores they were told to do. She-cats had kits rather young and rarely were the kits by true ThunderClan fathers. This was the world Lionkit was born into and he learned to look out for himself early on.
Lionpaw was no better six moons later. He himself skipped most of his apprentice duties, and back-talked his elders, and crossed borders. He had gotten into several border skirmishes by his seventh moon, and was anti-social towards his fellow apprentices. What saved him from a totally honorless life was his mentor, Featherstorm. She dutifully did all of her duties and looked out for him well. When she had to, she even sat and watched him do the chores just to make sure he did them. His siblings often teased him for having such a strict mentor, but over time, Lionpaw began to feel proud of doing so much honest work. None of the other apprentices seemed to know how to properly gather moss, or fetch water, or even some of the best tricks for hunting. By the end of his training, Lionpaw new all of this and Featherstorm had even burned the Warrior Code into his very brain. He had earned the name Lionheart, for his courage, loyalty, and devotion to the Clan.
But over those moons, something else was brewing just across the borders. Clans were discontent once more. There were problems with the borders. ShadowClan was the boldest at the time, sometimes outright hunting on ThunderClan territory. It was then that the old ThunderClan Leader, Thornstar, ordered that the Clan would stand and defend themselves. Eager and vastly unprepared, ThunderClan went into to battle. It was long and pointless. More blood was spilled every day, yet no cat attempted or suggested that it be ended. ShadowClan was as unorganized as ThunderClan, but they fought more fiercely, and slowly both populations began to dwindle. Many fled to the not warring clans and those who stayed in ThunderClan were considered the most loyal. It was in this battle that Featherstorm died, and the grief that her death caused Lionheart seemed a bottomless darkness which threatened to swallow the golden warrior whole. What made it worse was the pointlessness of the entire battle. It ended without any change in the territory boundaries at all. ThunderClan was in shambles. Thornstar was dead and many cats were scattered to other Clans. The deputy became leader, and the Lionheart was named the new deputy.
During his deputy years, the Clan seemed much better off. Under his strict enforcement, patrols were more organized and done. There was no way to force the lazier cats to work, but most were cooperative made real effort. Apprentices were getting better training, and their mouthiness was not as tolerated. Cats were still switching clans, but at a lower rate, and of course interclan relationships were not preventable at the time, but he worked tirelessly to make the Clan the way Featherstorm had envisioned. By the looks of it, even other Clans were giving the Warrior Code a real shot again.
Of course, life would not be without tragedy. The new leader, Dovestar, was stricken with a serious illness only twelve moons after the battle. She had already lost one in a battle with a badger, and this illness took five of her lives. With only three remaining, she was frightened of death. Since the battle with ShadowClan, her faith in StarClan had become shaky and she feared death more than anything. She stepped down from her leadership privately, simply leaving the Clan with no intention of returning.
Lionstar became leader with only six lives to lead with. He was glad to see his beloved Featherstorm, bright and healthy in StarClan. She was proud of all the work he had done as Deputy and told him he would do wondrous things for his Clan. She did not tell him of the tragedy he was destined to face. He had not at all been prepared.
Lionstar had always loved his siblings. He never had much chance to show it between his untamed kithood, his hard work as an apprentice, the battle in his warriorhood and his tireless effort to reshape the clan as a Deputy. He had failed to realize that his brother, Flamefoot, had taken to the trend of choosing a mate in another Clan. He had been shameless about it for moons, flaunting about with his RiverClan she-cat. At first, Lionstar privately begged him to leave her, trying to impress on him all that he had learned of the Warrior Code. But Flamefoot was stubborn, claiming that he was so in love that he would choose her over any of his clanmates. For a long time, Lionstar had to tolerate this, feeling a vague sense of foreboding. The day came at last…Flamefoot’s kits were born to RiverClan, and although Flamefoot thought his mate understood that he wanted them in ThunderClan, she refused to give them to him. Lionstar refused to become involved, claiming that this was the very reason for the rule about Inter-Clan relations, but Flamefoot called him pompous and took matters into his own claws. With Gingerleaf’s help, Flamefoot infiltrated the RiverClan cat and snuck out with his nearly newborn kits. He had meant to travel through WindClan to reach ThunderClan, but it required that they cross the river. As Flamefoot and his sister raced toward the river, a RiverClan warrior caught up to them and battled with Gingerleaf who was carrying one. He overpowered the gentle ThunderClan cat rather easily and she fell into the waters holding the kit. Flamefoot battled the RiverClan warrior, expecting his sister to come back up at any moment, and after much effort he killed him. The other RiverClan warriors were catching up, and Flamefoot waited desperately for his sister to re-emerge. Desperate to escape, Flamefoot gripped the other two kits and raced across the moor to ThunderClan.
That entire tale he told to Lionstar, and begged the ThunderClan leader to fight for he and Gingerleaf. Lionstar looked at his brother quietly, then slowly, called for a Clan Meeting. But rather than telling the Clan to prepare for battle. Lionstar announced that his brother was to be banished for breaking the Warrior Code. Fighting back tears, he drove his brother out, and his Clan was in full support of it, being so enraged at the harm and death Flamefoot’s actions had caused. The kits were ordered to be returned to RiverClan and Lionstar later made this announcement.
“From this day forth, any cat here, at this moment in ThunderClan is a ThunderClan cat and any cat born of two ThunderClan parents, is a ThunderClan cat. All others are loners, rogues, and other Clan cats. All other will be chased out of this territory. Any cat violating this rule of the sacred warrior code will be chased out and can never return. Love is not a valid excuse. Loyalty is to this Clan and no other.”
Six lives passed quickly mighty warrior. He worked tirelessly to change his clans wicked ways. Oddly enough, most ThunderClan cats loved him. The ones who had survived and remained after the mighty battle looked to him for advice. Few even knew all the rules of the Warrior Code, but they learned quickly and obeyed.Cats that caused trouble within the Clan were scorned and looked down upon but none were banished as Flamefoot had been.
Lionstar's last life was spent in a terrible thunderstorm. A badger, seeking shelter, entered the camp. Lionstar was first to spot it and though he called for warriors and ordered the apprentices, queens, and kits to stay in their dens, the leader himself raced out to battle the mighty beast. The fight carried out of camp and he began to lead the creature to the top of the hollow. Unfortunately, a bolt of lightning sent the badger stumbling forward and knocked Lionstar off the ledge as well...
